Railroads are a means of transporting passengers and goods over land. A railroad track consists of two parallel rail tracks, usually made of steel, and mounted upon cross beams, usually made of timber and known as railroad ties. The vehicles that run on the rails are called rains, and are a series of individually powered or unpowered vehicles linked together. Transporting by railroad is the most energy efficient method of mechanized land transport, as well as one of the safest modes of transportation.
